For Hot Stuff, a small-batch hot sauce maker, the goal was to step away from the aggressive, "flamin' skull" tropes of the industry and move toward something far more inviting. I embraced a playful, naive design style that mirrors the joy of a homemade meal. By pairing a charming character with a warm palette of red, pink, and marigold, the branding shifts the focus from "extreme heat" to everyday kitchen happiness. It’s an approachable, hand-crafted identity designed to bring a little extra personality to the dinner table.

Creating a playful identity

The visual language for Hot Stuff is led by a warm, prominent pink, supported by energetic accents of red, marigold, and charcoal. To emphasize the small-batch nature of the product, I designed a logo featuring a playful, handwritten font paired with a chili icon styled after a linocut print. This "perfectly imperfect" approach creates a tactile, handmade feel that looks more like a kitchen creation than a factory product: friendly, honest, and full of character.
